NFPA Codes and Standards: NFCSS provides an online connection to the library of NFPA® codes and standards. Some, but not all, older editions of certain codes and standards are offered in PDF for single-user subscribers.
Handbooks: NFCSS provides an online connection to current and older editions of NFPA handbooks. NFPA handbooks offer commentary written by leading fire protection and electrical authorities. Written to help clarify code requirements, this content also contains hundreds of photos, tables, diagrams, charts, and examples of correct code applications. NFPA handbook commentary is presented alongside the code text.
The following tools are available to single-user subscribers.
Bookmark: add bookmarks to the online content referred to most often. Notes can be included with your bookmark. Access them from My Favorites.
Citation: Cite your source properly using the Citation icon in the toolbar. Saved citation can be accessed quickly by clicking the My Favorites link. The NFPA citation provides the full title, chapter and publication date.
Email: email code sections to colleagues using the email tool. Recipients can access the content for 48-hours.
Custom List: create custom checklists using the custom list tool. This tool can help support an inspection or plans review. Include personalized notes and save the lists created from within NFCSS. Access saved lists from My Custom Lists.
Enter a keyword, phrase, document title or number in the search box to find specific content. You can search the entire set at once or search any individual code. Filter to handbook commentary easily by selecting this option.
Use the advanced search option for specific terms or an exact phrase.
Easily update your NFPA profile to change your password, email, address, by clicking on the My Profile link in the upper right-hand corner of your window. You must be signed-in to access your NFPA profile.
NFCSS® has been retired.
We will no longer be accepting NFCSS subscription purchases or renewals. Existing subscription terms will remain active through 2026, until the subscription expiration date.
